Afghanistan has several lakes, but they are relatively small compared to other countries. The largest lakes in Afghanistan are:
Hamun-e-Helmand Lake - located in the southwestern province of Nimruz, this lake has a surface area of about 4,000 square kilometers during the rainy season, but it mostly dries up during the dry season.
Istadeh-ye-Mordan Lake - located in the central province of Bamyan, this lake is fed by snowmelt and has a surface area of about 3 kilometers.
Zarghoon Ghar Lake - located in the western province of Herat, this lake is a popular tourist destination and has a surface area of about 1.75 kilometers.
Other notable lakes in Afghanistan include Band-e-Amir, Shomali Lake, and Ab-i-Istada. However, due to years of war and lack of infrastructure, these lakes have been heavily impacted by pollution and overfishing.
